ENVOI
(small bird ornament)
just as the cutie, the little bird,
returns to the same place
moments after the sun
closes the space to the moon
and greets the day,
i too will orbit hereโฆ
unkept secrets, once shared,
become promises we may keep.
Notes
The envoi sits between the last poem and the final colophon โ the
book's last voice before the closing seal. Lowercase throughout.
The poem turns the orbital cosmology of the cycle back into a small
daily image: a bird that returns to the same perch each morning, just
as the sun closes the space the moon held overnight. The "i too will
orbit hereโฆ" line aligns the speaker with the bird and the moon both โ
a small repeating presence that comes back.
The closing line โ unkept secrets, once shared, become promises we may
keep โ gives the entire grimoire its plainest statement of the
privacy/trust paradox the cosmology has been working out across all
three sections.
