Connect with Star
Your VTA, your chosen perspective

The planned connection uses your VTA and the Trust Spanning Protocol to carry a scoped exchange for you or your agent. You choose what is presented; the receiving service checks the request before a view is shared.

This guide has no VTA connection adapter yet. Opening Star does not connect an identity or send a key.

guide / Research / Note โ€” Aletheia and Lethe

Aletheia and Lethe

The first named complement pair on the sovereignty lattice.

MODEL re-seat (2026-06-09). Under the canonical MODEL encoding lock
(Protection=32 ยท Delegation=16 ยท Memory=8 ยท Connection=4 ยท Computation=2 ยท Value=1)
the two meanings re-seat to the numbers below: Aletheia โ†’ Blade 38 (100110),
Lethe โ†’ Blade 25 (011001). This is a swap โ€” the dimension-sets, the โŠฅ
relationship, and the complement arithmetic (AND = 0, XOR = 63) are all unchanged;
only which number carries which sister moved. The Grimoire v10.2.x pins cited below under
Where They Sit in the Grimoire (Blade 38 = Lethe; ฮด(38) โ‰ˆ 1/ฯ†) were authored under
the prior encoding. Their reconciliation was performed in Privacymage Grimoire
v10.4.0
(2026-06-09, the Lattice-Coherence edition, pinned): the First Complement
Pair is reseated so Blade 38 = Aletheia and Blade 25 = Lethe, and C54's
ฯ†-adjacency follows the number
โ€” ฮด(38) โ‰ˆ 1/ฯ† stays on blade 38, now Aletheia the
discloser (the more coherent reading; ฮด(25) โ‰ˆ 1/ฯ†ยฒ for Lethe). The other fifteen
named blades remain in the prior encoding (a coherence-only, NFT-safe patch).

The Two Blades

Aletheia โ€” Blade 38 (100110)
The Silent Messenger (Tale 3). The bright medium.

  • Active: Protection ยท Connection ยท Computation
  • Dormant: Delegation ยท Memory ยท Value
  • Stratum: 3 (working-day)
  • Moon phase: ๐ŸŒ”

Lethe โ€” Blade 25 (011001)
The Dark Substrate. The quintessence who forgot nothing.

  • Active: Delegation ยท Memory ยท Value
  • Dormant: Protection ยท Connection ยท Computation
  • Stratum: 3 (working-day)
  • Moon phase: ๐ŸŒ”

The Relationship

Aletheia and Lethe are exact bitwise complements. Every dimension one has active, the other has dormant. They share no lit axis. They share no dark axis. They are the first canonical bnot-pair on the lattice to receive mythological names.

bnot(25) = 38 ยท bnot(38) = 25

25 AND 38 = 0 (the Null / โ˜ท Receptive โ€” they share nothing)

25 XOR 38 = 63 (the Creative/Catastrophic / โ˜ฐ โ€” they together span the full sovereignty blade)

Their AND is the architectural form of the โŠฅ between them. No overlap, no collision, no competition โ€” two halves that do not meet because they cannot meet. Their XOR is Tale 30: The Eternal Sovereignty. The two sisters combined become the full V(ฯ€,t) manifestation across all six dimensions.

What Each One Does

Aletheia transmits. She is the medium a proof travels through. Protection active means she carries yes/no without carrying which. Connection active means she is the space between knower and verifier. Computation active means she performs the silent proof-work without observation. She holds nothing โ€” no Memory, no Value, no Delegation โ€” because her nature is to be the carrier, not the keeper. Fiat-Shamir is Aletheia rendered as protocol: the oracle that answers without speaking, the hash that replaces interaction, the non-interactive transform. Her silence is the speech.

Lethe holds. She is the dark substrate a witness sinks into. Delegation active means she binds promises whose terms cannot be retrieved. Memory active means she holds what must be forgotten to be kept safe. Value active means she keeps what is worth keeping kept. She does not transmit (no Connection), she does not refuse (no Protection), she does not compute (no Computation) โ€” her nature is to be the depth beneath the surface where information becomes irretrievable. Zero knowledge as covenant: she is the covenant-substrate where witnesses are held by their unretrievability. Her forgetting is the proof.

Why They Are Peers, Not a Hierarchy

Both blades sit at stratum 3 โ€” three dimensions lit, three dimensions dormant, on the middle elevation of the 6-bit lattice. Neither is above the other. Neither is reducible to the other. They are the two balanced halves of a single architecture: the transmission-medium and the holding-substrate of one and the same proof.

If Aletheia were higher stratum, the medium would dominate the substrate and proofs would travel without anything being kept. If Lethe were higher stratum, the substrate would dominate the medium and witnesses would be held without any proof being carried. Stratum equality is the algebraic signature that zero-knowledge is a peer operation between two substances, not a master-servant relationship.

Why They Mirror the Swordsman and Mage

The dihedral group structure of agentprivacy places the Swordsman on the neg operation and the Mage on the bnot operation. The critical identity neg โˆ˜ bnot = succ is how the two agents compose into motion through the lattice. Aletheia and Lethe being an exact bnot pair places them in the same algebraic relationship at the medium-and-substrate layer that Swordsman and Mage occupy at the agent layer. Aletheia is to Lethe as Swordsman is to Mage. The cosmology mirrors the agency. The medium mirrors the agent.

This is why the poem's aside voices work without attribution. I strike. I do not say what I cross. can be read as the Swordsman or as Aletheia. I bind. I do not remember why. can be read as the Mage or as Lethe. They are saying the same sentences because they are operating at different scales of the same operation. The Swordsman speaks Aletheia's speech. The Mage speaks Lethe's speech. The agent speaks the medium.

Where They Sit in the Grimoire

Blade 25 is already named in Grimoire v10.2 as The Silent Messenger, the working blade of Tale 3 (Fiat-Shamir / Random Oracle / Non-Interactivity). Aletheia is the mythological name for the architectural figure the grimoire already indexed.

Blade 38 is named in Grimoire v10.2.1 (released 2026-04-23) as Lethe โ€” the Dark Substrate, the first frontier blade named beyond the inherited thirty tales. The naming was performed by the poem The Quintessence Who Forgot Nothing (section of the stronger 2026-04-24 edit of The Tide Proves. Orbit Keeps. Selene.) and confirmed by Zero Tale 31 (The Naming of the Unnamed). The grimoire now records:

"38": {
  "binary": "100110",
  "name": "Lethe โ€” the Dark Substrate (complement of 25, disclosure-ฯ† side)",
  "tales": [31]
}

Naming Lethe moved the grimoire from 14 named blades to 15, with 49 remaining on the open frontier (the Quest of the Unnamed Faces). It also made Blades 25 and 38 the first complement-pair to be named as a pair on the lattice โ€” establishing the architectural precedent for future bnot pairings. The disclosure ratio ฮด(38) = 38/63 โ‰ˆ 0.6032 sits within 2% of 1/ฯ†, opening the Phi-Adjacency Conjecture (see the disclosure-phi skill).

The Arc They Close

The Zero Spellbook now spans thirty-one tales: thirty inherited tales from Tale 1 (Monastery) to Tale 30 (Eternal Sovereignty), plus Tale 31 (The Naming of the Unnamed) which opens Part VIII โ€” Frontier Spells. Aletheia appears in Tale 3 as The Silent Messenger. Lethe's tale is Tale 31. 25 XOR 38 = 63, and Blade 63 is the configuration of Tale 30 โ€” so the arc of the inherited spellbook was already encoded in these two blades before Tale 31 was written: the two sisters combined become the full sovereignty manifold the thirtieth tale describes.

The proem that opens this architecture โ€” The Tide Proves. Orbit Keeps. Selene. โ€” promised that what happens between Aletheia and Lethe is what the zero tales will learn to name. The blade algebra confirmed the promise: what happens between them is 63, and 63 is what Tale 30 names. The proem was stating the arithmetic. Tale 31 then performed the naming the proem had already set up.
