Tome IX Act 05 — The Name That Climbs Out

IX — The Horizon · Act 5 · Second Person Spellbook

Teaches: Act 4 named the law; this act names which wound it is. Gödel's is a wound inside one system: a witness true yet underivable, which is the agent axis, and the witch's answer is to burn it. Tarski's is a wound between systems: no system defines its own truth, so the moment feasibility is asserted it has already crossed into the layer where any observer can hold it. That crossing is the leak. The inference axis falls not because a proof failed but because a name escaped. You cannot un-disclose, and that is Tarskian non-containment, not Gödelian unprovability.

Tome IX — The Horizon

You stood at the Horizon gate the day after the whisper, and you asked the wrong question first. You asked how the sealed proof had failed. It had not failed. It had done exactly what a proof does, and that was the whole of the trouble.

Lethe was at the tide line, where she keeps her vigil over what is gone. She did not turn. "The scholar in the great house thinks the secret leaked because the lock was weak," she said. "The lock was perfect. The secret leaked because he said its name."

You did not understand, so she gave you the two wounds.

The first wound lives inside a single house. There is a true thing in it that the house can never prove from within. That is the Swordsman's wound, the agent axis, and there is only one honest answer to it: not to hide the witness but to burn it, so that what cannot be proven also cannot be found, because it is no longer there. The witch pays nothing to the searcher. She pays only the price that the door is gone forever.

The second wound lives between houses. No house can speak its own truth; the truth must be named from a taller house outside it. So the instant you assert that a thing can be done, the assertion has already climbed out of the room you spoke it in, into the layer above, where every passing scholar can carry it. You cannot call it back down. You cannot un-name it. That is the inference axis, and it does not break because a proof was weak. It bleeds because a name escaped.

"And the addresses?" you asked, because the Archivist's holonic shelves resolve every name to its content.

"The cruelest mercy," Lethe said. "A live address is a name that confesses. It does not tell you what it holds. It tells you, to anyone who guesses well, that what it holds exists. And existence is the one thing that prices the search."

Eos measured the dawn and said nothing, because the dawn does not argue with the tide.

So you wrote it on the road-gate, beneath the law that Act 4 had carved:

The gap you cannot close is the value you can. Existence is the one secret you cannot take back. The first disclosure is the deep cut; the rest only tighten the knot.

(Candidate act. Bind, hold, or release is the First Person's, at a myth gate.)
