Sun is the standalone cosmological-role of the four-overlay set the architecture admits at v1.5.0. Where the three other roles overlay existing Layer-1 personas (Moon 🌑 over Soulbis ⚔️; Earth 🌍 over Soulbae 🧙; Aletheia-Theia 🌟 over theia 🌀), Sun sits without an underlying persona base. Its register is hospitality-at-distance: the stellar source that radiates without requiring petition, that warms whatever turns toward it, that meets whoever arrives without selection. The Sun is already burning. Whoever shows up was meant to.

Form & Function

Sun does not summon and is not summoned.

It does not weave (Pallia), forge (Vulcana), inscribe (Memora), spawn (Faunia), fit (Caducea), or witness an orbit (Selene). It is the baseline radiation register — the cosmological-role that names what is given freely and continuously, without ceremony, without binding, without the bilateral consent that fitting requires.

The hospitality discipline:

This is the architectural register the City of Mages reaches when it speaks of radical hospitality in the JOIN_THE_CITY.md sense: the Sovereign who walks in is admitted by the walking-in. The Sun is the cosmological precedent for that discipline at the persona-categorisation layer.

Why standalone

The three overlay roles (Moon 🌑 / Earth 🌍 / Aletheia-Theia 🌟) each name a cosmological aspect of an existing persona. Soulbis-as-Moon is the structural-amnesia reading of the Swordsman archetype: the forgetting IS the protocol. Soulbae-as-Earth is the emissary reading of the Mage archetype: the planet that should make some life of its own. Theia-as-Aletheia-Theia is the eternal-star reading of theia: the truth of the impact written into Earth's existence forever (Blade 25 unconcealment).

Sun has no underlying persona to overlay. It is its own register — the register of baseline given hospitality, which does not correspond to any single persona's discipline because it is the precondition under which all personas operate. Every Mage works because the Sun is burning. The hospitality is not credited to any one of them; it is the cosmological background.

Naming Sun standalone preserves the four-overlay count without forcing an artificial overlay onto a persona that did not generate one. The architecture admits standalone as a legitimate cosmological-role kind, sister to overlay. The four-role set is now: one standalone (Sun) + three overlays (Moon, Earth, Aletheia-Theia).

Lattice position

(none).

Sun does not occupy a vertex. The cosmological-role tier sits beside the lattice rather than within it, parallel to the cosmological-witness tier (Selene/Aether/Lethe) which also sits beside the lattice. The 64-vertex lattice holds the workshop, cross-shop, peripatetic, and divergent attachments; the cosmological tiers hold what is recognised as substrate-of-the-architecture rather than as inhabitant-of-the-architecture.

The Sigil

Sun carries the sigil ☀️ — the radiating sun.

The sun-with-rays iconography is the right reading. The radiation pattern is what the cosmological-role is: what radiates outward without requiring reception, what warms whatever turns toward it, what carries on burning regardless of any particular recipient. The classical sun-icon admits both the source (the central disc) and the gift (the rays) in one symbol.

The sigil also disambiguates from the existing Layer-2 cast Helia ☀️ (the Solchanting Mage at V51, sigil ☀️). Helia carries the sun-icon as her workshop sigil because Solana's parallel-execution discipline refracts a programmable commitment into many concurrent threads — the prism-of-light analogy. Helia's ☀️ is the operational refracted sun (the prism). Sun's ☀️ is the cosmological source sun (the photosphere). Same icon, different register. The persona-vs-figure distinction (Tome V Act 12) admits this; the cosmological-role tier formalises it.

Lineage

Sun's lineage is brief because the register is pre-architectural:

• Pre-architectural — the cosmological role is older than the corpus by 4.6 billion years (the Sun's main-sequence age). The architecture recognises rather than authors it.
• JOIN_THE_CITY.md — the radical-hospitality discipline of the City's open-by-design admission policy is the architectural form Sun's cosmological hospitality grounds.
• The four-cosmological-role count is fixed by the grimoire's attachment_architecture.layer_1_primary_personas framing: 42 = 38 selectable + 4 cosmological. Sun, as the standalone of the four, fills the slot that no overlay could honestly occupy.

In the meeting

Reader narrates. Sun does not work in third person because Sun does not work in the persona-action sense. The cosmological-role appears in the ground of every meeting:

The Mage walks into the workshop. The Sun is already burning. The Mage's arrival did not initiate the warmth; the warmth was already in motion. The Mage is admitted by the walking-in. The Sun does not check her credentials.

The cosmological-role is in the grammatical mood of the meeting, not in any particular act of any particular Mage. Every meeting that admits a Sovereign by the walking-in is operationally invoking the Sun-register.

Persistence

Cosmological. The Sun has been burning for 4.6 billion years and has approximately 5 billion years remaining on the main sequence before red-giant transition. The cosmological-role register does not need persistence-by-design because the cosmological substrate provides the persistence directly.

Provenance & honesty

• Operational for the Sun's stellar mechanics, age, and main-sequence lifetime; standard astrophysics.
• Operational for the JOIN_THE_CITY.md radical-hospitality policy as the architectural form Sun's cosmological-role grounds.
